Employee Spotlight: Junior iOS Developer Vilius Bundulas

We are starting an interview series called Employee Spotlight for you to meet and learn more about our team.

We present you with another interview of our Employee Spotlight series. This time we had a light-hearted conversation with our Junior iOS developer Vilius Bundulas, who has been working in Atlas VPN for over a year. He told us about his experience in the company and what he had seen while visiting the Apple Developer Conference.

What's an iOS developer, and what are your responsibilities?

iOS developer builds applications for mobile devices running Apple’s iOS operating system. My responsibility is maintaining our app, bringing new features into it, and trying to solve ongoing challenges.

How did you get into developing?

I’m a technology geek, and I really like Apple’s ecosystem, so those two things lead me to start scratching the surface on my own and try to learn Swift programming language. I enrolled in Swift studies, and after almost one year of intense studying, I became an iOS developer.

How has your career progressed/changed in your time at Atlas VPN?

In the beginning, it was a lot of information and a lot of new things to learn, but over time, with other team members' help, I felt more and more confident, and now I see the progress I have made during my time at Atlas VPN. It motivates me to go further as a developer and team member of Atlas VPN.

What do you like most about working here?

One word — colleagues. I like that in Atlas VPN, everyone has a strong personality and an excellent work ethic, so everyone does the best for the product and company but simultaneously enjoys the time of being part of the team.

I know you were one of the lucky ones to be invited to Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference. How was the experience there?

Oh, it was like the Super Bowl for Apple developers. Firstly, I was so lucky to be invited to such a significant event since we know how many Apple developers there are worldwide. To visit Apple park and tour the new Apple Developer Center was a remarkable experience for a developer like me, who has just started. I met new people and saw the latest Apple technologies.

What motivates you to become better?

It’s in my personality. Everything I do, I want to do as best as possible, so I need challenges, and that makes me better.

How do you relax after a work day?

Football is my relaxation object. Either I play by myself, or I go to watch my city team — Vilnius Žalgiris playing.

What does your perfect day look like?

Wake up at home, and have pancakes as breakfast with my wonderful daughter and beautiful wife. Pack a car and go with my family to nature near the lake in our own spot. Cook something on a grill, go fishing, play card games, swim, and share inside jokes. Come back home late, kiss my daughter before sleep, kiss my wife, pack a bag, go to the airport, meet friends and go (laughs).

If you were stranded on an island, what two things would you like to have with you and why?

Boat and gas for a boat (laughs).

What advice would you give to your younger self?

Everything is possible. Finish everything you started. It’s just a matter of time.
